Embed a poll on your website
This is a real poll. Anyone can vote without an account, and the results show once you've voted:
1. Create a poll
In your project, open Polls and click Create poll. A poll has:
- Question, up to 240 characters, and an optional Description for context.
- Options: between 2 and 10 answers.
- Answers per voter: Single choice, up to a number you pick, or Unlimited.
- Starts and Ends: it opens now and runs for a week unless you change them. A poll with a later start shows as scheduled until then, and it closes by itself at the end time.
Polls publish as soon as you create them. There's no draft step.
2. Embed it
Open the poll and click Copy embed code. You get a container with the poll's id. Paste it where the poll should appear, on any page that has the Disfora script:
<div data-disfora-poll-id="…"></div>
The same poll can go on several pages. Votes from every page count towards one result. On a CMS like Ghost, Webflow or Squarespace, paste it into an HTML or Code Embed block in the post.
Who can vote
Require sign-in to vote is on by default.
- On: readers sign in with their Disfora account, with Google or an email code. Each account gets one vote.
- Off: anyone can vote without an account, one vote per browser. That's quicker for readers but easier to game: someone who clears their browser data or switches browser can vote again.
Voters can change their answer while the poll is open. Their new answer replaces the old one.
When results show
Results shown decides when readers see the counts:
| Setting | Readers see the results |
|---|---|
| After voting | Once they've voted. This is the default. |
| Always visible | Before they vote, too |
| After poll closes | Only once voting has ended |
| Hidden from voters | Never. Only you see them. |
You can always see the results, with the count and share for each option, by opening the poll in your dashboard.
Closing and archiving
- Close now ends voting early. The poll stays on your pages with its results, following your results setting.
- Archive takes the poll off your pages but keeps its votes. Unarchive brings it back.
- Duplicate makes a new poll with the same question, options and settings, starting now and running for the same length of time.
- Delete poll removes the poll and its votes for good.
Poll style
Polls use your project's colours and font. The Polls section of the Styles page sets the poll box's own background, corners and padding.
