Very cheap for one small site
FastComments' Flex plan bills by use with a $0.99 minimum, and removes its branding. A small site can pay about a dollar a month. Disfora's free plan shows Disfora branding; removing it is $5 a month.
FastComments has no free plan, and its Flex pricing meters page loads, stored comments, extra sites, moderators and sign-ins. Disfora is free for one site and charges for more sites, never usage, and it renders in your page, not an iframe.

FastComments is a fast, capable hosted comment system with live updates, single sign-on and a long list of importers. For one small site, its Flex plan is very cheap.
The bill has a lot of parts, though. Flex charges per 100,000 page loads, per 100,000 stored comments and per 1,000 single sign-on users, plus $10 for each extra site and admin and $5 for each moderator. There's no free plan: after the 30-day trial, the widget hides itself.
For readers, the widget runs in an iframe, so it can't pick up your site's fonts and styles. By default, commenters give a name and email and are marked unverified until they click a link, and there's no Google sign-in.
Disfora renders in your page, lets readers sign in with Google or an email code, and is priced by sites alone. Comments, page views, votes and form submissions are unlimited on every plan.
Including what FastComments does better, like single sign-on on every plan and very cheap small sites.

Readers can comment with your site's own accounts on any FastComments plan. Disfora readers sign in with Google or an email code.
New comments appear without a reload, and it imports from more systems, including Hyvor Talk, Cusdis, IntenseDebate and Muut. It can also run on your own servers.
Download the CSV export to keep. On WordPress, the FastComments plugin has already copied your comments into WordPress, so export them from Tools → Export instead.
Delete its script tag and the element it renders into, or deactivate the FastComments plugin on WordPress.
Create a free account, start a project and enter your domain. No card needed.
Paste the script tag once, and put an empty container where the comments should go. On WordPress, install the Disfora plugin instead: it does this for you.
Prove the site is yours with a meta tag, a file or a DNS record. Comments start showing straight away.
Readers sign in with Google or an email code. To let them comment with just a name too, add free Cloudflare Turnstile keys in Settings and turn on guest comments.
On WordPress, the FastComments plugin copies your comments into the WordPress database every day, so the WordPress export carries them. Upload it under Import comments in your project's settings and they land under the same posts, with their replies, names and dates.
Elsewhere, FastComments exports CSV, which Disfora can't import yet. Tell us if you need it: it decides which importers we build next.
Webhooks send every comment to your own server as it's posted, edited or deleted, as signed JSON. They're on the free plan, so your comments don't have to live only in someone else's database.

Yes, if you turn on guest comments in your project's settings. Guests comment and reply with just a name, after a Cloudflare Turnstile check that runs on your page with your own free Turnstile keys. Their comments wait for your approval, and they can't vote. Readers who sign in, with Google or an email code, keep one account for every site that runs Disfora. Guest comments are on every plan.
