Add comments to a Ghost site

Add the script once in Code injection, then swap Ghost's own comments for the Disfora container in your theme's post template. Readers comment without becoming members of your publication.

Before you start

  • A Disfora project for your site. Create a free account, start a project and enter your domain. You'll verify it once the code is live.

1. Add the script

In Ghost admin, open Settings → Advanced → Code injection and paste this into Site footer, then save:

<script src="https://disfora.com/public/disfora.js" async></script>

If you verify your domain with the meta tag, paste that tag into Site header on the same screen.

2. Add the container to your theme

Download your active theme: in Settings, open Theme, then the Installed tab, and download it. Unzip it and open post.hbs. Find Ghost's comments helper, which usually looks like this:

post.hbs
{{#if comments}}
  <section class="article-comments gh-canvas">
    {{comments}}
  </section>
{{/if}}

Replace it with the container. Keep any wrapper the theme uses, so the comments line up with the post:

post.hbs
<section class="article-comments gh-canvas">
  <div data-disfora-comments></div>
</section>

{{#if comments}} is only true when Ghost's member comments are turned on, so leave it out. If your theme has no comments helper, put the container after {{content}}.

3. Upload the theme

Zip the theme folder again and upload it from the same Theme screen with Upload theme, then activate it. Keep a copy of your changes: updating the theme from its author replaces post.hbs.

On Ghost(Pro) Starter

The Starter plan only runs official themes, so you can't upload an edited one. You can still add comments post by post: at the end of a post, add an HTML card containing the container. Step 1 already loads the script on every page.

<div data-disfora-comments></div>

Check it on your site

Disfora only loads on the domain in your project. Once the theme is live, verify your domain if you haven't yet, and open a post on your site.
